Executive Minister Announcement

Tuesday, April 17, the Board of Stewards unanimously voted to call the Rev. Renee Hoke to serve as the Executive Minister of University Christian ChurchRenee has joyfully accepted the call to being part of our ministry team, helping lead our congregation towards new levels of excellence in ministry.

In our search to fill this unique role, we were looking for a dynamic person with strong administrative skills to help manage the ministry of the congregation. We have found that person and are thrilled to welcome Renee to our ministry team beginning June 10.

Renee is a native Texan with vast experience in both the corporate world and in the church. With a degree in Journalism from Texas A&M University, she began a successful career as a television news reporter and anchor. Corporate media relations and communications came next. In the Media Department at Mary Kay Cosmetics, Renee handled the media schedule for Mary Kay Ash and served as liaison between marketing executives and beauty editors for women's magazines.

Following that, Renee served as Director of Corporate Communications for Zale Corporation. Eventually, Renee left the corporate world to enter Brite Divinity School and prepare for ministry. Since seminary, she has served local Disciple congregations in Duncanville, Kingwood, and Spring before accepting a call as Area Minister for the Trinity Brazos Area.

A year later, her territory expanded to include the Bluebonnet Area. Renee spent most of her time working with congregations in transition and found that particular assignment very rewarding. After three years on the road, she accepted a call to serve First Christian Church in Wichita Falls as they entered a time of transition with the retirement of their senior minister. She assumed the position of Acting Senior Minister in September 2017.

Renee has two sons: Ben, his wife Hailey, and their 2-year-old daughter Finley live in Ogden, Utah. Andrew and his wife Courtney live in Austin. Renee's mother and her two brothers and their families live in or around Waxahachie.

When asked what she is most looking forward to about serving at UCC, she responded, "Being a part of an amazing ministry team, working alongside world class lay leaders, excellence in all aspects of ministry, attention to detail, and collaboration with TCU and Brite. I can't wait to get started!"

It is an honor to announce and introduce Rev. Renee Hoke to University Christian Church. With her wonderful gifts, creativity and experience, she will be a tremendous addition to our talented staff and will fit right in, helping to create a cohesive, collaborative team that serves this congregation in exciting ways.

Grace and peace,

Rev. Dr. Russ Peterman
Senior Minister
